A rare, large and heavy English 18 carat gold open faced pocket watch made by James McCabe in London, circa 1820. The case with indistinct London hallmarks, stamped with maker’s mark TW, a reeded bezel, the band, pendant and bow deeply chased with fruiting vines, acorns and flowers, an engine turned back with a reeded border and the center with engraved initials on a circular reserve. Fixed gold cuvette and gilt dust cover. Unusual blue enamel dial with gold painted radial Roman hour numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds and gold spade hands. Matte gilt full plate movement with turned cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain with maintaining power, a jewelled duplex escapement, three arm gold balance with timing screws, flat balance spring, diamond endstone and an index regulator. Dial and movement signed, dial, case and movement numbered.
