A very fine Swiss 18K gold and enamel, diamond and pearl-set lady’s pendant form watch with concealed dial and photograph compartment, in the shape of a beetle, made for the Chinese market circa 1870.
Heart-shaped movement, gilt, bar calibre, 8 jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance, flat balance spring, index regulator.
Spring-loaded wings, translucent red enamel over engine-turning and set with seed pearls, opening to reveal the dial, the neck set with seed pearls, rose-cut diamond eyes, hinged realistically cast and chased underside, ring suspension loop. Gold cuvette.
White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track. Louis hands.
