A fine Swiss 18 carat gold, enamel, diamond and emerald-set beetle-form pendant watch, circa 1870. A realistically chased and engraved underside, the wing covers are entirely decorated with translucent green enamel over an engraved ground and set with rose-cut diamonds, the body and head black enamelled, the thorax also set with rose-cut diamonds and emerald-set eyes, the hinged spring-loaded wings are opening from a button in the base to reveal the dial. Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals and blued steel spade hands. A heart-shaped gilt-brass movement with bar calibre and going barrel, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, plain three-arm balance and flat balance spring with index regulator.
