Gold cylinder pendant watch in the shape of a scarab
–
A museum quality Swiss 18 carat gold and enamel, diamond set pendant form watch designed as a scarab with a concealed dial, circa 1880. The scarab shaped case with red guilloché enamelled, spring loaded wings studded with rose cut diamonds, the champlevé style neck has matching ornaments. The head and hinged belly are realistically chased and engraved with two diamonds that represent the eyes. Inside the cover, a picture can be inserted behind a glass panel. Small white enamel dial with Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track and blued steel hands. Heart shaped, key wound bridge movement with a three arm brass balance, rare quality with wolf teeth and a cylinder escapement, at the bottom a miniature pusher for opening the wings.
