Gold open faced lever watch by Patek Philippe

A Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced pocket watch delivered to Gondolo & Labouriau, Relojoeiros, Rio de Janeiro, circa 1913. This watch was specially made for A. Julio Nobrega, treasurer of a Brazilian football club. The polished case with a monogram on the back. White enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and gold spade hands. The bridge movement with a counterpoised moustache lever escapement and screw compensation balance. Dial signed, case numbered, movement signed and numbered.

Between 1902 and 1930 Patek Philippe produced an exclusive collection, especially for the renowned Brazilian watch resellers Gondolo & Labouriau. These watches have characteristics such as wolf’s tooth winding wheels, the patent signature Pat. Jan. 13, 1891, a gold wheel train, a cam type fine adjusting device and a counterpoised moustache lever. The prestige of the Patek brand was such that the word ‘Patek’ was regarded as a synonym for any watch, regardless of whether it was made by Patek Philippe or not.
