Three colour gold and enamel pocket watch by Dufalga
–
A very fine and rare Swiss, three coloured gold and polychrome enamel painted pocket watch with dumb quarter repeating à Toc, circa 1780. This watch features a verge movement with quarter repeater à toc, floral engraving, an open worked balance bridge, and a regulation dial. The movement is signed Dufalga Geneve. The enamel dial showcases Roman numerals, outer railway minute divisions, and pear shaped hands.
–
Its case is crafted à trois couleurs gold and bears the hallmark HF. On the back is an oval enamel médaillon set in a gold dot border, depicting an elegant gentleman in a purple vest. The enamel has a hairline crack. The miniature is signed on the reverse, G. Spencer 1753 (Gervase Spencer, 1715-1763). It has an enclosed glazed watch stand, Napoleon III, and a key. It is in exceptionally good condition.

Philippe Cafarello Dufalga (born 1712, France – died 1794, Geneva) was the son of Francois Dufalga from Haut-Languedoc, France. Together with his father, Philippe Cafarello moved to Geneva, where he was naturalised in 1745. He was known for crafting luxurious watches. It is likely that he worked both in Geneva and in Paris, which would explain the two signatures,  Dufalga à Paris and Dufalga à Genève. Unfortunately, the identity of the case maker, HF, remains unknown. Only a few of these luxurious verge watches are known today, primarily in well known collections and museums. A similar watch can be found in the Louvre Museum.

Signed: Dufalga Genève
