Unsigned gold repeating automaton watch
–
A Swiss 18 carat gold quarter repeating automaton watch with three striking jacquemarts, circa 1830. The watch features a gilded full plate movement with verge escapement, a plain three arm balance, and a decoratively pierced and engraved balance bridge. It also includes a fusee and chain, two polished hammers that repeat on blued steel coiled gongs, with the movement numbered beneath the gongs. The skeletonised dial boasts a white enamel chapter ring, Arabic numerals, an outer minute ring, and two varicoloured female Jacquemarts flanking the chapter ring, with an additional Jacquemart in the form of a putto at the base of the dial. All three figures strike a bell in unison with the repeating mechanism, and the polished steel repeating work is partially visible beneath the dial.
–
The gold case features a polished back and bezel, a milled band, and a plunge pendant with a locking slide on the band. The gilt metal cuvette and case back are numbered and bear an indistinct case stamp, possibly TC or LC, while the cuvette’s rim is stamped DB.

Movement is not running; the fusee chain is broken and detached. The repeating mechanism is operational, with hours and quarters sounding; however, the hour strike is occasionally dull in tone. The two female Jacquemart figures move their arms well and in time with the repeat. The putto Jacquemart’s arm moves slightly with the quarter strikes but does not yet reach his bell. The strike is currently out of sync with the hands (approximately 6 hours), so the hands need to be reset. The enamel chapter ring appears to be in good condition. The Jacquemarts and their decoration are generally in good condition, though there is some tarnishing. The case exhibits minor scuffs and an indentation on the back near the hinge. The pendant locking slide is functioning properly.
