An elegant Swiss gentleman’s pocket watch with alarm and independent jumping seconds from the property of a noble family, circa 1830.
The 18 Carat gold/silver case is engine-turned with a polychrome enamelled family crest and motto: Fortiter in re suaviter in modo (Strong in the matter, gentle in the manner), engine turned silver band, and signed gold dome. The gold dial is also engine-turned and guillochiert with Roman numerals on a peripheral hour dial, auxiliary seconds, and blued Breguet hands. And the frosted gilt bridge movement has one hammer, one gong, three barrels, applied silver alarm disc, side lever escapement, gold screw compensation balance, and shock protection for balance.
