Rare gilt impressive cruciform calendar watch by Tite Leschot

A very fine, extremely rare Swiss cruciform shaped watch with full calendar and enamel figure of Christ on the back side, circa 1790.
Brass gilt case with push button to the side to release the hinged top lid, and on the back side a central polychrome painted enamel panel depicting Christ on the cross with the vertical arm of the cross with loop. Five enamel dials: centre dial indicating hours and minutes with radial Roman hours and gold “Poker & Beetle” hands; upper dial for the date, the right dial showing months and their lengths, the one below for lunar calendar; underneath aperture with florally decorated bars for visible balance; and the dial to the left with days of the week and planet of the day. Cross shaped full plate movement, keywind, gilt, with chain/fusee, verge escapement and three-arm brass balance.

Tite Leschot was on 28 October 1762 in La Chaux-de-Fonds born to Frédéric Leschot and Françoise Jaqueline Liomin (1731-1800). Tite was the half-brother of Jean-Frédéric Leschot. Tite married Julie Perret-Gentil (1769-1798) in 1788 . From this marriage 2 children were born, daughter Julie Françoise married Joseph Louis Perregaux and Charles Frédéric Leschot (1789-1833) became a watchmaker in Geneva.
Tite Leschot died in 1823 at the age of 61.
