Gilded metal musical automaton with alarm by Charles Reuge

A Swiss gilt metal pocket watch with a music automaton and alarm clock, circa 1980. The case is crafted from gilded metal with an ornamentally engraved lid. The eccentric dial is signed and displays Arabic numerals, complemented by gilded hands and a blued hand for the alarm setting. The figure automaton showcases a knight on horseback alongside a woman at a fountain, all set against a finely engraved, polychrome landscape background. The dust cover is signed Reuge à Sainte-Croix and is numbered 1333. There is a push button for manual operation of the musical movement, with the watch movement featuring crown winding and the music movement utilising key winding.

The piece is in working order and includes its original box and two original winding keys. It exhibits minimal signs of wear, though the dial has small hairline cracks.

Charles Reuge, a Swiss watchmaker, resided in Sainte-Croix. He specialised in crafting pocket watches featuring automatic and musical mechanisms. One of his pocket watches, created around 1880, is part of the collection at the German Clock Museum in Furtwangen.
