Gold lever watch with chronograph

A fine French 18 carat yellow gold keyless lever pocket watch with a chronograph and 30-minute register. Retailed by Henri Vever, 19 Rue de la Paix, Paris and made by Bernard Poitevin, circa 1890. Polished case with engraved foliate monogram PW on the back, the interior is engraved 28 Mai 1899. A hinged gold cuvette.
White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, an outer minute track and outermost fifths of a second divisions with Arabic five-second numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute register at 12 and gold spade hands. Matte gilt movement with 23 jewels, wolf’s tooth winding, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with peripheral temperature and meantime adjustment screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring with over coil and an index regulator.
Punched with Poitevin’s mark on the dial plate, cuvette signed by the retailer.
