Open faced gold enamel pocket watch

A Swiss gold enamel pocket watch with ultra flat Bagnolet calibre, circa 1830. The pocket watch is ornamented with floral engraving and a centred cartouche with an Alpine farm house on the back side.
An 18 carat gold case, silver florally engraved dial with Roman numerals, full plate movement, keywind, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance.

In the bagnolet caliber the movement is inverted and the train reversed. The idea was to make a very thin watch by reducing the thickness of the bridges and the dial and to eliminate the cuvette. Philippe Samuel Meylan is credited with the invention of the bagnolet caliber.
