–
An extremely precious splendour pocket watch repeater with emerald setting by Bautte & Moynier, circa 1830. An 18K pink gold, very precious splendour case, made in 3 different gold colours, both sides with a raised relief of flowers, leaves and tendrils, both sides with precious emeralds, dome signed and numbered, very fine, complicated cylinder movement, repeating the hours and quarters, unusual technical mechanism with repeater release at “2”, splendid 4-colour gold dial, Breguet pink gold hands, in fantastic condition.
The watch is in this version an exceptional quality and a top timepiece of the famous Geneva company Bautte & Moynier. The company was specialized in pocket watches, music boxes and automatons and was famous for its enamel works and cases with jewel or pearl setting. In the rarest cases pocket watches with splendour cases of this quality were equipped with a complication, as in this case the quarter-hour repeater.

The name “Moulinie” goes back to a company which, as Moulinier & Bautte, produced high-quality pocket watch cases in Geneva in the last decade of the 18th century (1793-1802). From 1804 the company, now known as “Moulinier, Bautte und Cie”, produced the finest pocket watches and was known from 1808 to 1821 for its high-quality timepieces. The partners separated in 1826. Bautte founded “Bautte & Moynier” and Moulinier continued his business as “Moulinier Aine & Cie.” and from 1840 as “Moulinier Frères & Cie”. The two almost identical watches mentioned here are of the same origin, but due to the separation of the partners with different signatures, similar to Patek and Czapek!
