Brooch watch with visible balance, probably by Piguet & Capt Geneva
–
A Swiss gold and enamel quarter repeating brooch watch likely converted from a ring, circa 1810–1815. The watch features a gilded movement with a cylinder escapement, and it repeats on a bell recessed into the backplate. It has a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, blued steel moon hands, and an aperture for a diamond-set visible balance. The gold octagonal brooch-form case may have been converted from a ring watch, with a chamfered bezel of blue translucent enamel set with opaque white roundels. There is a repeating slide on the right case side, and the back is set with a hinged brooch pin and a sliding panel to reveal apertures for winding, hand-setting, and regulation, all with directionals.

Dimensions: 21 x 32 mm

Signed: no name

The movement is in operational condition. The dial has some hairlines and possibly some residue covering it, and the tip of the hour hand is broken. The case has some light scuffs and scratches, with some gaps beneath the bezel probably caused by repeated removal in the past.

These watches are better known as ring watches, mostly from the workshop of Piguet & Capt Geneve. The design of the balance is very typical. Extremely rare are examples with a repeater.
