Samuel Darier et Louis Galopin were high end horologists and jewellers established on April 1, 1807 in Geneva, with a capital of 99,000 Swiss francs, a large sum at the time. A few years later they established themselves in Paris, at Rue Croix des Petits Champs. The company was dissolved March 15, 1812. On October 15,1817 Louis Galopin (Gallopin) with his two brothers, Andre and Jacques, established in Geneva and in Paris a company called Galopin Frères. Louis’ grandson, also Louis, in 1883 became the successor to the famous Henry Capt company, purchasing it outright in 1893. There is little doubt that the Louis Junior worked in his grandfather’s company. This watch is a testimony to the high standards he was committed to from the beginning of his watchmaking years, which eventually led him to produce some of the most complicated watches in the world.
