A rare Swiss heavy gentleman’s pocket watch with “Auguste Saltzman calibre”, circa 1870.
Engine turned 18 carat gold, tiered, à goutte case with signed gold dome. Signed enamel with radial Roman numerals, auxiliary seconds and spade hands. Half plate movement, patented movement construction, nickel-plated, stripe-decorated, screwed gold chatons, screw compensation balance, blued balance spring, counterpoised lever.

Frédéric Nicoud worked as a watchmaker in La Chaux-de-Fonds at the end of the 19th century , producing fine pocket watches in a small studio. He also used ” Auguste Saltzman caliber.
