A very rare Geneva/Paris coach clock with self-strike and repeater made for the Ottoman market circa 1800.
Two silver cases: outer case magnificently decorated with tortoiseshell, inner case florally decorated on the back, typical Ottoman band decoration, with bell.White enamel Ottoman dial with Ottoman vendor’s signature Markarik Markame Perigal London and blued steel hands. Verge movement, repeating the hours and with hour self-strike. Dial ring and movement plate signed Louis Mestral.

The vendor’s signature is a variation of the well-known London watchmaker Markwick Markham, one of the main suppliers to the Ottoman market. David Louis Mestral was born in Geneva on 21 May 1768, the son of the Swiss watchmaker Louis Mestral and Elisabeth Bellamy.
