Platinum open faced pocket watch

A Swiss ultra thin platinum open faced pocket watch that belonged to the former President of Mexico, General Álvaro Obregón Salido, made by Verger Frères, circa 1920. The plain case has a diamond set band, a push back engraved Álvaro Obregón a H.N. Branch 16 de Junio 1922 and is punched with maker’s mark VF for Verger Frères. The silver dial features Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track and blued spade hands. The rhodium plated bridge movement by Vacheron & Constantin is fitted with 18 jewels, eight adjustments, a lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance.

Álvaro Obregón Salido, born February 19th, 1880 and died July 17th, 1928, was a Mexican general, inventor and politician who served as the 46th President of Mexico from 1920 to 1924. He was re-elected to the presidency in 1928 but was assassinated before he could take office.
