Unusual so called Neuchâteloise
–
A coach – and travel clock in shield form a so called Neuchâteloise, possibly made in memory of Fredrich Perret by a watchmaker in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, circa 1820. The plain open faced shield shaped case is crafted from wood and has an inscription on the back: ‘’F. Perret, Maitre Horloger né en 1728 à la Sagne, Conté de Neufchâtel, le 10 du mois de Mai’ (F. Perret, Master Watchmaker, born in 1728 in La Sagne, County of Neuchâtel, the 10th of May). The silvered dial has an outer ring with Arabic hour numerals and subsidiary dials at five o’clock for the days of the week and at seven o’çlock for the days of the month and exceptional steel hands. The unusual (probably eight day) movement has a cylinder escapement with an oversized barrel.
