Silver exceptional coach watch
–
An important and exceptional Swiss silver open faced minute repeating jumping seconds coach watch with an experimental escapement, calendar, age of the moon, quarter hour/hour self strike and alarm, circa 1820. Flat full plate movement, three barrels, five hammers, a ring balance, an early combined pin lever/calculator lever escapement with a six-pin gear wheel, a claw shaped lever and hairspring with a regulating device which allows the balance to oscillate at two and a half revolutions. The quarter hour and hour strikes are struck by two hammers, two more when the minute repeater is triggered by pressing the pendant and a fifth for the alarm. A silver cuvette with three winding openings decorated with an engraved floral bouquet. White enamel dial, Roman hours, an outer minute track with Arabic quarter hour numerals, three subsidiary dials for the date, days of the week with daily planets and the age of the moon, auxiliary seconds at 3 o’clock. The case is pierced with tendrils on the edge, has a bottom bell and maker’s mark FLMD. Case numbered. Comes in the original leather covered transport case.
