Silver double dialled world time pocket watch
–
A large and unusual Swiss silver, double dialled, 24 hour world time pocket watch with Greenwich patent, made by J.L. & A. Beguelin in Tramelan for Henry Harburg & Co., London, and La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1890. The watch has a nickel bridge movement with decorative engraving, lever escapement, and compensated screw balance, numbered on the top plate. The polychrome front dial is white enamel with an outer chapter ring calibrated in Roman numerals from I to XII. It features daytime hours on a white background and night hours on a grey background. The central rotating enamel disc displays polychrome time zones for 25 world cities. The rear dial, also white enamel, shows polychrome time zones for 43 world locations and has a central rotating dial calibrated from 0 to 60. The case is silver, partially gilded with red gold, engraved, glazed on both sides, and numbered.
