Crucifix shaped pendant watch
–
A Swiss, unique, museum like silver enamel cross form pendant watch with a concealed watch of high quality, The Flaming Heart, circa 1890.
Cylinder escapement, ring balance, winding and hand position via the crowns on the side. Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals and red gold pear hands.
Silver case with applied ribbon decoration; the front translucent cobalt blue enamel and a central jumping lid with repoussé cupid; the back with an exquisitely engraved cross shows the Sacred Heart surrounded by flowers. The heart is a Christian symbol representing Jesus Christ’s divine love for humanity; another devotion is the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Underneath the hidden dial, hinged on the back, the dust cover is also magnificently chiselled, gold plated formwork of fine quality.
