Gold, enamel and pearl-set dress watch

A fine Swiss, 14K gold and polychrome enamel, pearl-set, minute repeating, hunting cased, keyless dress watch, circa 1910. Made by Vulcain, the movement by Volta (Maurice Ditisheim, La Chaux-de-Fonds). Made for the Chinese market circa 1910. Both covers are decorated in translucent imperial blue enamel over wavy-line engine turning, the front painted with a portrait of a young lady, the back cover decorated with a flower bouquet, pearl-set bezels.

Hinged gold cuvette. Silvered dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel spade hands. A rhodium-plated movement, straight-line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance with blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Dial and case signed by Vulcain, cuvette VOLTA (Ditisheim’s trademark registered in 1896).
