Silver open faced lever watch by Mobilis
–
A Swiss continental silver open faced keyless one minute People’s Tourbillon watch with lever escapement, circa 1910. This watch features a gilded full plate movement with a lever escapement, mounted on a front facing one minute tourbillon carriage. It has a bimetallic compensation balance, with the backplate stamped Bté s.g.d.g. 30754, Brevettato R.A. 208.N.232, Pat. N. 7888/1905, U.S. Pat. appl. for, and signed Mobilis. The continental case is made of silver, with an engine turned back and is numbered. The watch features an asymmetrical, gilded, engine turned dial plate, accompanied by a matte champagne dial adorned with Roman numerals, an outer pearled minute ring, blued steel hands, and a large aperture below that reveals the gilt metal tourbillon carriage.

The movement is running smoothly, with the hands adjusting precisely. The dial is in good overall condition, though some burring is visible on the screw heads. The case is tarnished and dirty, with small marks, scratches, and dints present throughout the bezels and band. The engine turning on the back remains clear and well defined.

This watch is made according to Paul Loichot’s 1904 patent. Loichot licensed his invention to be used by Courvoisier Frères, the latter selling tourbillon watches using the patent under the brand name Mobilis, see K. Pritchard, Swiss Timepiece Makers 1775-1975, 1997.
