A silver IWC pocket watch with an open face, circa 1912. The watch has a silver engine-turned case with a cartouche and case number 552153. It features a precision lever movement with screwed gold chatons and movement numbered. The enamel dial displays Arabic radial hours, an outer minutes track, a subsidiary dial for the seconds, and red gold hands. The watch is in working condition, and both the case and movement are signed by IWC.

IWC was founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American engineer and watchmaker. Jones combined modern engineering technology from the U.S. with Swiss craftsmanship to produce high-quality watches for the American market. Johann Heinrich Moser helped Jones establish IWC in Schaffhausen, the only watch manufacturer in north-eastern Switzerland. Moser built Schaffhausen’s first hydroelectric plant, laying the cornerstone for future industrialization.
