Lever with two tone silvered roulette style dial by Patek Philippe
–
A fine and unusual Swiss stainless steel and rose gold open faced keyless lever watch, circa 1940. The watch features a nickel finished lever movement, stamped twice with the Geneva seal, and includes 17 jewels along with a bimetallic compensation balance and a micrometre regulator. It has a two tone, silvered roulette style dial with applied rose gold baton and Arabic numerals, and an engine turned subsidiary seconds dial. The plain case is made of stainless steel with a rose gold rim on the bezel and a snap on back. The case, dial, and movement are all signed. A Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirms that this watch was produced in 1940 with a silvered dial and raised pink gold hour markers and that it was sold on February 5, 1941.

The movement is in working condition. The dial has been cleaned, though there is some discolouration at the 7 o’clock position. The signature is nicely raised in hard enamel. The case shows light surface wear and has some very minor pitting on the bezels. The two colour gold chain is associated with the watch but is not original to it.

This open faced dress watch, made from steel and pink gold, was made during World War II. Due to restricted access to precious metals during the war, it is common to find watches from this era that include stainless steel components. This particular watch stands out because it features a unique dial complemented by a beautifully raised hard enamel signature.
