A fine Swiss/French 18K gold and enamel open faced verge pocket watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. A polychrome enamel scene depicting children playing a game of hoopla in a landscape against an imperial translucent blue enamel background over sunray engine turning, the border with gold paillons, the bezel decorated with white enamel dots imitating pearls on an imperial blue ground.

White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions and Arabic fifteen-minute numerals, a winding aperture at 2 o’clock, gold beetle & poker hands. A frosted gilt movement, fusee and chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental balance cock with polished steel endplate, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed.
