Gold open faced verge watch
–
A French yellow gold open faced pocket watch made by Fleury in Nantes, dating from the late 18th century. The watch has a key wound mechanical movement with a verge escapement and a finely engraved balance cock, signed Fleury à Nantes and numbered on the plate. The white enamel dial shows Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track with Arabic five minute numerals, a winding square at 2 o’clock, Louis XV style hands, and is signed by the maker (noted with a small hairline or accident). The gold case has a decoratively engraved back. The watch comes with a matching pompone chatelaine, including a winding key set with a hardstone portrait and two additional decorative elements. Both the dial and movement are signed.
