Mitsukoshi is one of the oldest department stores in Japan, having begun as a kimono shop in 1673. The lion statue, created in 1914, is one of the store’s well-known symbols and can still be seen in front of the Mitsukoshi department store today. According to the consignor, this symbol was used by Patek Philippe especially to honour the Mitsukoshi store.
