Silver Art Nouveau form watch

A fine Swiss silver open faced fan shaped Art Nouveau lever pocket watch with retrograde time indication, circa 1905. Fan shaped movement, inscribed Brevet 27961, with a straight line lever escapement and screw compensation balance. White enamel dial, black Arabic retrograde hours from 0 to 12, minute divisions above with black retrograde five minute numerals from 0 to 60, the quarter hours in red and blued steel spade hands. The case back with embossed and engraved decoration showing a floral bouquet of lilies and calla lilies, hallmarked, signed by the maker Holy Frères. Dial and cuvette signed Sector Watch (Co), movement numbered and signed Record Watch Co SA Tramelan, case numbered and signed Holy Fs Déposé.

This type of watch is based on Swiss patent No. 27.961, which Giovanni Sgherlino from Turin received on April 9, 1903. A group of watchmakers and dealers from Tramelan and Tavannes took an interest in the unusual design and registered the Record Watch Co. S.A. on December 16, 1903. The new company was based in Tramelan.
