Unsigned four minute tourbillon watch attributed to Louis Linzaghi
–
A Swiss silver open faced keyless four minute People’s tourbillon watch with lever escapement, circa 1905. The watch features a nickel full plate movement adorned with decorative engraving, while the backplate is inscribed with Echappement Tourbillon, and the barrel bridge bears the mark Brevet 33368. A four minute tourbillon carriage is visible at the front of the watch, and a lever escapement with compensated balance. The white enamel dial is set upon a central bridge above the tourbillon carriage, displaying Roman numerals, an outer gilt minute ring, and blued steel hands, with the dial labelled Tourbillon and the bridge repeating the patent number. The silver case showcases an engine turned back, a polished bezel, and a plain polished silver cuvette, with both the back and bezel numbered.

The movement runs occasionally. The dial appears to be in good condition. The band has some nicks and scratches, but the engine turned case back remains crisp and clear.

A similar watch, attributed to Louis Linzaghi of La Chaux-de-Fonds, is illustrated in R. Meis’s Das Tourbillon, 1986. Louis Linzaghi applied for Swiss Patent No. 33368 on 2 August 1905.

The design features the watch’s dial secured to a central bridge while an exceptionally large tourbillon carriage revolves beneath; a lever escapement is embedded into the edge of the carriage.
