Especially beautiful watch with musical movement
–
An especially beautiful pocket watch with repeater and musical movement, made circa 1800. The numbered case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold and features the DLG case punch, a beautiful high relief band with floral motifs and an engraving in the shape of a historical ship on the back. The professionally restored white enamel dial features an outer track with minute division, Arabic hour numerals, and very decorative snake shape steel hands. The lépine movement is fitted with a cylinder escapement, an hours and quarters repeater, music on the hour or on demand and muting.

In the context of a cylinder watch with a musical and repeating movement from circa 1800, the initials DLG typically represent a Swiss master watchmaker or an établisseur (assembler) from the Geneva or Vallée de Joux regions, which were the hubs for such complex complications at that time.
While several watchmakers used similar initials, the mark is frequently attributed to Ducommun-dit-Locle, G. (or related family members).
The Ducommun family was a prominent lineage of Swiss watchmakers from Le Locle. They were renowned for producing high quality movements with complications like musical mechanisms and repeaters during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
