Gold pocket watch with pearl trimmings
–
An exquisite piece of horological art, this small gold enamel clock with a “starry sky decor” and pearl trimmings, made circa 1800. This full hunting cased watch is crafted from 18 Carat gold. It is set with large half oriental pearls and the blue guilloché enamel on both sides of the clock is another striking feature. The enamel dial of the clock is in excellent condition, which is remarkable given its age. The Breguet steel hands are another indication of the clock’s quality. Breguet hands were invented by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 18th century and are still used in high end watches and clocks today. The hands are known for their elegance and precision, and they add to the clock’s overall aesthetic appeal. The clock’s movement is based on a verge escapement, which was the most common type of escapement used in clocks until the mid 18th century. The verge escapement was simple and reliable, but it had its limitations. It was not very accurate and required frequent winding.
