A German single handed silver pocket watch with alarm, circa 1685.  Laterally pierced case, animal scenes between tendrils and two cartouches with landscape/town view. Replaced bell, very early German verge movement, tulip pillar, chain/fusee, engraved barrel, signed plate. Champlevé dial with Roman numerals and central alarm disc.

Paul Graupner was first mentioned around 1680 and became a master in 1696. Pocket watches by Paul Graupner, one of the first Dresden masters of the 17th century, have hardly appeared so far. His son, Johann Gottlieb Graupner (around 1690-1759) was Court Watchmaker under Elector Friedrich August I (August the Strong) in Dresden.
