A very rare and very fine English 18 carat gold open faced half-quarter repeating pocket chronometer, Hallmarked London 1840. Full plate movement, spring detent escapement in the manner of Thomas Earnshaw, bimetallic large chronometer balance, gold screws, diamond endstone, engraved bridge, repeating the hours, quarter hours and half-quarters. White enamel dial with Roman hours and outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds, fine steel fleur-de-lys hands. Plain case, case maker’s punch LC for Louis Comtesse, Soho, London. Case numbered, cuvette, dial and movement signed and numbered, case and movement with matching numbers.
