An extremely early English fire gilt open faced deck watch with stoppable seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1770. Fire-gilt verge movement with stoppable seconds, cock with grotesque face. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, subsidiary seconds, presumably original hands. Floral engraved motifs on the outer case back, the front with red and white stones, the inner case plain with case maker’s mark TH for Thomas Hardy. Movement signed and numbered.
