Brass verge pocket watch by Samuel Toulmin
–
An exceptional English pair cased underpainted verge pocket watch from London, enclosed in a tortoiseshell case, circa 1770. The watch showcases a copper gilt inner case and an underpainted tortoiseshell brass outer case delicately adorned with moss agate-inspired moss growth along the edges. At the heart of the design, a young lady leans casually against a covered vase in a picturesque mountainous landscape, with a gentle lamb resting at her feet. The enamel dial features Roman radial hours, an outer minutes track with Arabic five minute numerals and decorative gilt hands. It also boasts a full plate keywind movement with chain/fusee, verge escapement, and a three-arm steel balance.
