Stainless steel deck chronometer by Ulysse Nardin

An extremely rare Swiss stainless steel split-seconds chronograph deck chronometer with 60-minute counter, circa 1930. Very fine chronometer calibre, Geneva striping decoration, fine adjusting device and split-seconds chronograph, high-speed oscillator with 36.000 A/h. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, additional signature R.J. Christian Oswestry and the quality inscription Chronomètre, blued steel hands. Plain case, Ulysee Nardin punch, on the back of the case still the original sales label with the details of the later owner and the serial number. Dial signed and numbered, case and movement numbered.

This watch was tested in 1935 and 1937 at 1st class chronometer competitions at the observatory in Neuchatel, test certificates are present.

R.J. Christian Ltd, Oswestry, England was a jeweller and watch dealer in England. The present watch was delivered through his shop to the later owner H.D.N. Manson, Isle of Man.

There are only a few of these outstanding deck chronometers from the 1930s known. They were of extremely high quality and were later used as measuring instruments at sporting events, for example, the Olympic Games in the 1950s and 1960s.
