Marine chronometer with power reserve and ratchet wheel by Robert Roskell

A fine, small English brass bound rosewood two day Marine chronometer with 56 hour power reserve indicator and ratchet key, circa 1860. Gilt brass full plate movement with ring turned pillars secured by blued steel screws, 11 jewels, fusee with chain and Harrison’s maintaining power, Earnshaw escapement, spring footed detent with jewelled locking stone, two armed cut bimetallic compensation balance with cylindrical weights, two mean time adjusting nuts and two screws, freesprung blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves. Silvered dial with champlevé Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds and power reserve indicator, original gold spade hands. Brass bound box with flush brass handles, the glazed upper section with bone signature and numbering plaque, hinged lid, the interior with a trade label, brass bowl with gimballed suspension. Dial and box signed, paper trade label of Angelo Petrali, Cardiff.
