Eight day marine chronometer with 24h dial and power reserve by Dent

A very fine and very rare English eight day going marine chronometer with 24 hour dial and power reserve indication, circa 1905. Gilt brass movement, two frames, with perlage decoration, going train frame with cylindrical pillars, fusée with chain and Harrison’s maintaining power, escapement frame with balance shield containing the Earnshaw type spring detent escapement with jewelled locking stone, cut bimetallic compensation balance with temperature adjustment screws and meantime adjustment nuts, unusual auxiliary compensation of two straight springs footed at one end to two additional arms at right angles to the balance arm, the outer tip of the spring secured by a vertical pin in the balance rim at the cut edge, free sprung blued steel “trio in uno” (three in one) balance spring, diamond endstone. Brushed silver dial with Arabic 24 hour numerals, subsidiary dials for the seconds and power reserve indication, original blued steel spade hands.  Mahogany wooden box with brass handles, glazed upper section with hinged lid, brass bowl and gimballed suspension.
Dial signed and box with E. Dent paper label. Accompanied by a rachet key.

This chronometer has the very rare “trio in uno” (three in one) balance spring and an unusual auxiliary compensation to the balance formed of two extra arms at 90 degrees to the main balance arm, the ends of these arms with a footed spring extending to the rim of the balance cut and secured there by a vertical pin.
