A very fine and rare Swiss/American 18-carat rose gold half open-faced keyless minute repeating split-seconds chronograph lever pocket watch, circa 1888. Retailed and cased by Tiffany & Co, New York. Sold on July 17, 1889. Nickel-silver movement with Geneva striping decoration, 23 jewels, straight-line counterpoised lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating activated by a slide on the band.Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with painted Breguet numerals, outer minute and 1/5 seconds divisions with red Arabic 5 minute/seconds numerals, and original blued steel spade hands. Solid, plain case, rectangular pusher on the band for the split-seconds function, locking bolt at 11 o’clock, concealed hinges. Dial, case, and movement signed Tiffany & Co.
