A fine French gilt brass and leather Louis XIV oignon watch, circa 1710. Frosted gilt full plate movement, divided Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed steel balance, short balance spring, pierced and chased cock decorated with a cockerel and foliage, Tompion type regulator with silver scale disc. White enamel dial with bold blue painted Roman numerals, inner quarter hour ring, outer minute track with black Arabic five minute numerals, winding aperture at 3 o’clock and blued steel poker hands. The case back and bezel overlaid with leather, square hinge, loose ring pendant. Movement signed.
