Gold and enamel open faced musical watch by Bovet

An extremely fine and rare English gold and enamel open faced musical cylinder watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1815. Bovet’s finely chased and engraved floral decorated gilt finished Chinese calibre, cylinder escapement, musical pin barrel, music playing on the hour or at will. Glazed cuvette with engine turned gold frame. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds. Case with polychrome champlevé enamel floral decorated bezel, rim, pendant and bow, reverse centred by a painted polychrome enamel scene depicting ‘Aeneas and Dido’, en passant music start/stop lever and push button to activate the music at will underneath the bezel. Case numbered and stamped with Bovet’s master mark, English style hallmarks and date letter for 1815, movement signed with Bovet’s English signature Tevob (inveresed for Bovet) London and numbered.
