An English 18 carat gold open faced keyless and keywound chronometer watch with power reserve, circa 1873-1874. 3/4 Plate gilt finished jewelled movement wound through the pendant or with a key, finely engraved balance cock and foot, chain fusée, Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws, blued steel helical spring with diamond endstone, freesprung regulator. Gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, blued steel spade hands, two sunk subsidiary dials for power reserve and constant seconds. Plain case. Case and cuvette numbered, stamped with the casemaker’s initials ‘HW’ for Henry Webb and London date letter for 1873/74, dial signed by maker, movement signed by maker and numbered.
