An English 18 carat yellow gold and tortoiseshell covered pocket watch, circa 1771. The back and bezel are covered with tortoiseshell decorated with studs, and engraved with the monogram RG. White enamel dial with radial Roman numerals, outer minute division with five-minute Arabic numerals, gold spade hands. Gilt full-plate movement with large divided Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, under-sprung plain three-arm steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed winged cock pierced and finely engraved with symmetrical stylized foliage, mask in the neck, rack and pinion regulator with silver dial. Movement signed. Case and movement numbered.
