Gold engine turned cylinder watch

A German 18 carat gold quarter repeating pocket watch, circa 1820. An Empire, engine turned case, slide at 1 for locking the repeating and a hinged gilt metal cuvette. White enamel dial, Arabic numerals, outer minute track, secured by a screw and blued steel Breguet hands. Matte gilt, full plate movement, the barrel under a separate bridge, repeat barrel under a polished steel plate, cylinder escapement, plain three arm balance, flat balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by depressing the pendant. Dial, cuvette and movement signed.

Little is known of the watchmaker Carl Friedrich Mylius although he was evidently a highly competent maker. His son, also called Carl Friedrich Mylius was a well known photographer in Frankfurt.
