A rare Czech silver keywound verge pocket watch from Moravia, circa 1730. Gilt frosted, engraved full plate movement, chain/fusee, three armed brass balance, count wheel, verge escapement.
Silver champlevé dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, turnable alarm disc in the center and blued hands. Plain case, punch mark AS with coronet. Dial and movement signed.

The Engelschalk family was most likely a watchmaking dynasty with widespread roots. Members are recorded as makers in Würzburg, Friedberg, Augsburg, Prague, Budapest and Thorn. This is, however, the first time one hears of Johann Engelschalk of Olmütz.
