A very fine French 20 carat gold quarter and hour repeating à toc et à tac verge watch, circa 1734. White enamel dial with gold hands. Open worked case, driven and engraved, motif with musical instruments to the back, decorated with various animal and hunting motifs. Gilded brass dust cover, signed. Fire gilt movement, silver spindle bridge with screwed ruby endstone, verge fusee escapement, repetition with two hammers. Dial and movement signed.

Guillaume Vitrolles was born in 1673 in Paris. He married Geneviève Voisin and was probably related to Antoine Vitrolles. Guillaume Vitrolles was listed as a master watchmaker at Grande Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. He went to apprenticeship May 2, 1706. Antoine Vitrolles was a master watchmaker in Paris at Rue de Saint-Antoine and was mentioned on November 22, 1719. He died on February 2, 1754, Rue Culture Sainte, 81 years old.
