A fine and rare English 18 carat gold pair cased lever pocket watch with rack lever escapement, Hallmarked London 1812. Gilt full plate rack lever movement, polished steel 3-arm balance, bimetallic compensation curb regulator, diamond end stone.
White enamel dial, black Roman numerals, black outer minute track with 5 minute markers, subsidiary seconds at 6, blued steel spade hands. Polished inner and outer case.
Dial and movement signed, case stamped IR.

The rack lever escapement was patented by Litherland in 1791 and was used by both Liverpool and London makers during the first quarter of the 19th century. The present watch is rare due to the gold pair case, as most rack lever watches were made with silver cases.
