A very rare English pocket watch with duplex escapement and center seconds, circa 1800.
Gilt case with spring lid with floral decorations and matching numbers; splendid and fire-gilt movement with duplex escapement and diamond endstone; rare original white enamel dial with center seconds, Roman hours, Arabic minutes and gold hands (one hand repaired). The intact movement is signed and numbered.

William Ilbery was one of the leading makers of English pocket watches for the Chinese market. Ilbery worked in London from around 1780 to 1839. He was a very well-known watchmaker and trader who specialized in fine, complicated, mostly very expensive pocket watches made of gold and gemstone with decorative enamel painting.
